SMARC

SMARC makes e-waste recycling intuitive and easy, by bringing collection to the user and secondly enabling optimised and efficient e-waste collection. Through these two key value propositions, SMARC optimises the first and crucial stage in the e-waste recycling process - collection. At this point, SMARC’s use of smart sensors and IOT technology ensures the capture of previously unknown e-waste data and co-ordination of collection services. By making a cybernetic intervention at this point, SMARC makes a positive contribution to the downstream stages of the e-waste recycling system. As such, there is a higher order value proposition to SMARC: by optimising the collection system, the entire e-waste recycling system benefits, leading to improved environmental outcomes and recovery of valuable resources that are currently being lost to landfill.

SMARC PROCESS FLOW

An overview of the SMARC System in operation is set out below.

SMARC Request

  1. Individuals will be able to request a SMARC from the SMARC API.


SMARC Delivery

  1. The SMARC API will notify a Collection Partner of the SMARC Request, and the Collection Partner will be responsible for delivering the SMARC to individuals.


SMARC in Use

  1. Once the SMARC has been delivered, individuals will be able to deposit their e-waste into the SMARC.

  2. The SMARC will record the type of e-waste item deposited and the mass of the item. This data will be transmitted to and recorded in a SMARC database. 

  3. The SMARC will also determine the value of the deposited e-waste and provide a payment to the the user. 


SMARC Collection

  1. Collection Partners will have access to the SMARC database to determine the most efficient times and routes to collect full SMARCs as back-loads from their delivery routes. The collection of SMARC receptacles will be recorded on the SMARC database.

  2. Collection Partners will store collected e-waste at their distribution centres. 


E-waste collection

  1. ANZRP will have access to the SMARC database to monitor the mass and type of e-waste items that have been collected and stored by Collection Partners at their distribution centres.

Using the information from the SMARC database, ANZRP will determine the appropriate time to collect the consolidated e-waste from the distribution centres of Collection Partners.
